Propecia contains a medicine called finasteride. This belongs to a group of medicinescalled Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitors’.

Propecia is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (also known as androgeneticalopecia). Propecia increases hair growth on the scalp and prevents further hair loss inmen. Men with mild to moderate, but not complete hair loss, can benefit from usingPropecia.

How does the hair on your head grow?On average your hair grows about 1 centimetre (half an inch) each month. Hair growsfrom hair follicles, which are located under your skin.

A single scalp hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (growth phase) and then stopsgrowing for 2-4 months (rest phase). After this the hair falls out. In its place a newhealthy hair begins to grow, and the cycle is repeated. The hairs on your scalp arealways in different stages of this cycle so it is normal to lose scalp hair every day.

What is male pattern hair loss?

Male pattern hair loss is a common condition in which men experience thinning of thehair on the scalp, often resulting in a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of thehead. This condition is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic factors and aparticular hormone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone).

DHT causes a decrease in the growth phase and thinning of the hair (see picture). Thisleads to male pattern hair loss. These changes can start to occur in some men in their20s and become more common with age. Once hair loss has occurred over a longperiod of time, the hair may be permanently lost.

How to treat male pattern hair loss:

If you are affected by this condition tell your doctor or dentist about your as they may need to change the treatment to a newer medication (propecia) or to the normal treatment (finasteride).

He or she may recommend an endoscopy or a hair transplant surgery to investigate the size of the>loss of hairand to determine if finasteride is the right treatmenttreatment. If you are taking finasteride (Proscar or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors) tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking finasteride (Propecia).

This medication is not recommended for use in children.

Cautions

If your doctor has recommended a new treatment a complication is rare. Propecia and finasteride will not cause a serious problem in children, but it may cause you a low sperm count which may cause you to lose fertility. If a man becomes pregnant while taking a new medicine tell your doctor.

If your doctor has prescribed a finasteride medication see your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new treatment (propecia) or during the first 6 months of your cycle (proscar or finasteride).

Keep out of reach of children.ildinising tablets for the treatment of male pattern hair loss contain a small amount finasteride. If swallowed take this medicine out of the small vial of finasteride.

This panel has 4 tips for safely using medicine on the skin:

1. Wash your hands after getting off your clothes. This will prevent the medicine from actually being absorbed into the skin.2. Use a gentle warm water repellent or moisturising dressing.3. Remember that the medicine will only help you to stop hair loss. Hair loss may come on suddenly and you may need to stop taking the medicine the next day. Discuss with your GP or pharmacist.

2. If you need to use an endoscopy or a hair transplant surgery, a biopsy will be recommended to check your health before you use finasteride. This will reveal the problem and determine whether it is due to a serious condition or to a low sperm count. If this is the case, tell your doctor.

Ateenager took the risk of losing his hair with Proscar, but the drug has since been removed from Ireland and the side effects have been reported. A pharmacist told the Irish Independent that a recent study found that men taking the drug experienced more hair loss than men without the drug.

It's believed that Proscar, a drug with a longer half-life, might be a potential cause for concern among some men and some women.

A spokeswoman for a leading medical journal,Proscar:noted that the drug is not intended to treat hair loss. However, the drug's effect is more pronounced for women than men, the spokeswoman said.

Proscar was prescribed by a GP in the UK in 1997, but there was no formal approval by the drug's manufacturers.

In a news release, the drug's manufacturers, Dr Fox and Merck, said the side effects were common and serious.

The drug has since been removed from Ireland, where it was first approved in 2010 and is now in a different category, the same category as the drugs on the market.

"The most serious adverse events associated with Proscar include a sudden decrease or loss of hearing, a sudden and disabling skin reaction, and a potentially fatal heart rhythm disturbance," the statement read. "The side effects of Proscar have been reported to be reversible.

"The drug's mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it is thought to be active on the hair follicles of male pattern hair and on the scalp."

The drug's effects are more pronounced for women, which is why a pharmacist told the Irish Independent that it may be a potential cause for concern among some men and some women.

Proscar was also removed from Ireland following a series of adverse events in the UK.

The drug's manufacturer, Dr Fox, has said that the side effects are rare and that Proscar should only be used to treat symptoms.

Dr Fox told theDaily Mailthat the drug had been removed from Ireland and that the side effects of the drug's side effects have been reported to be common and serious.

In aarticle, Dr Fox quoted a pharmacist at a New York clinic as saying the drug was unlikely to cause permanent hair loss.

In the UK, Proscar has been removed from Ireland, which is the second time the drug has been removed from the same country.

In a news release from the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Fox said that it is "possible" that Proscar was likely to cause hair loss, but that it was "not known whether the drug had a significant effect on hair loss" in the UK.

The drug was originally approved for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, or an enlarged prostate, but was also approved to treat prostate enlargement in men.

It has since been removed from Ireland and is still available in pharmacies.

Proscar has been approved to treat enlarged prostates in both men and women, with more recent trials showing that the drug is more effective than placebo in treating both conditions.

The drug's side effects are more pronounced in women than men, and the drugs are unlikely to cause hair loss.

The drug's manufacturer, Dr Fox, said that it was "possible" that Proscar was likely to cause hair loss, but it was not known whether the drug had a significant effect on hair loss in the UK.

Abstract

Hemoglobinuria (HU)is a common medical condition in which blood is unable to accumulate or be used for medical purposes. Although the cause is unknown, it has been reported that the use of HU in individuals with idiopathic or mixed hemoglobinuria leads to an increase in plasma levels of heme. In the case of idiopathic hemoglobinuria, the use of heme does not lead to the development of HU, and the increased plasma levels of heme in patients with hemoglobinuria are inversely associated with age. Therefore, in patients with hemoglobinuria, the plasma levels of heme are increased in older age, and the hemoglobinuria may be associated with the administration of oral HU (Proscar®). The aim of this study was to determine whether heme serum levels of heme are associated with the administration of oral HU (Proscar®).

A total of 40 patients with hemoglobinuria, who were referred to our department of Hemoglobinuria and hemoglobinuria (HUV) in our Department, were included. The patients were divided into 4 groups (group I, 2 patients), who received HU at the beginning, 2 weeks and 2 months of treatment.

The first group (Group I) received HU at the beginning, 2 weeks and 2 months of treatment, and the other group (Group II) was given a single dose of heme HU (100 mg) 3 days after the first dose of HU. The blood levels of heme, the plasma levels of heme and heme plasma levels of heme were determined in all patients. In the second group (Group II), which received heme HU 3 days after the first dose of HU, the plasma levels of heme were determined at the end of the 2-month treatment period. The results of the study are presented asP-value. In the third group (Group III), who received the heme HU dose, the plasma levels of heme were determined at the end of the 2-month treatment period.

In the fourth group (Group III), who received the heme HU dose, the plasma levels of heme were determined at the end of the 2-month treatment period.

All the patients received a single dose of heme HU (100 mg) 3 days after the first dose of HU.
